Nothing is lit, heated or sharp. Every potion states plainly whether it can be drunk. Each one has a "grown-up job" box telling you exactly which part is yours. Check for allergies before anything goes near a mouth, and nothing is ever gathered from outside — kitchen cupboard only.

And there are no secrets in this book. Nothing asks a child to keep anything from you; the monster contract is signed with a grown-up, on purpose.
